You scored 5.2 in one match and 6.8 in the next — same face, same you. That's not a bug in your looks; it's how the scoring works. Omoggle measures a single video frame with geometric facial-landmark detection, so anything that shifts where those landmarks land shifts your score. Here are the seven reasons it swings.
1. Lighting Direction
The single biggest factor. Jaw definition is the most lighting-sensitive metric on the panel: soft overhead light flattens your jaw and cheekbones, while a key light from above-and-to-the-side carves them out. The same face can move a full point on lighting alone. Aim for one soft light source at roughly 45°.
2. Camera Angle & Height
Landmark ratios depend on perspective. A camera below eye level widens the jaw and shortens the midface; a camera above shrinks the jaw. Eye level, lens straight-on, is the neutral baseline the model reads most consistently. See: Omoggle camera angle guide.
3. Distance / Proximity
Sitting too close introduces lens distortion that enlarges whatever is nearest the camera (usually your nose) and skews proportion. Back up so your whole head and a little shoulder are in frame.
4. Webcam Quality & Resolution
A low-resolution or noisy sensor gives the landmark model fuzzier points to work with, which degrades symmetry and skin readings. Better optics and more light both produce cleaner, higher scores — without changing your face at all.
5. Facial Expression
Micro-changes in jaw set, lip position and eye openness move landmarks frame to frame. A relaxed, slightly forward jaw and neutral-to-subtle expression tends to read best; talking or laughing mid-scan can tank a frame.
6. Props, Trolls & Occlusion
The system is easily thrown off by anything covering the face. Opponents holding objects up, hats low over the brow, or partial occlusion can distort a scan — it's why even consistent players get knocked down by a troll.
7. It Only Sees One Frame
Omoggle grades a still moment, not you in motion. A single frame can't capture animation, gaze or vibe, so two scans seconds apart can differ. This is also why the actual mog battle is audience-judged — people with mid-7 scores routinely beat 9s by smiling at the right moment.
